Moved from Fear to Joy: A Christmas Gift that Keeps GivingLiving in Hope in Our Living Hope

Just because Christ is risen from the dead does not mean that our lives will be without challenges on this side of glory as we wait for the day of His glorious return.  Some preachers peddling happiness as if it were ordered online often pontificate that once a person makes a decision for Christ that their lives will be fine and dandy.  Experience tells us otherwise and, sadly, many who have been victimized by this “New Year’s Resolution” mindset become disappointed when life does not turn out the way they think it should.

Thankfully, though, our faith is not in our circumstances.  Our faith is not in our experiences.  Our faith is not in our faith.  Our faith is in Christ, our living hope.  His death for our sin and His rising for our new life provide for us an inheritance that will not spoil or fade.  It will be given to us in the last time.  Meanwhile, we pray to and praise our Lord through all our hardships, knowing that His amazing and abundant love for us will not leave us without hope.

Instead of looking for immediate results and drastic changes in our circumstances, our Lord calls us to believe in Him and rejoice that we are receiving the salvation of our souls. Baptized into Christ’s death and resurrection, we treasure this as we choose to keep living each day, knowing full well that things may not always go our way, that life will not always be fair, and that some things are just beyond our control.  We live by faith, living in the hope of what is still coming, the salvation of our souls.  This living hope comes because of our living Lord who defeated sin, death and the devil for us.  He feeds us this hope at His holy altar.  Even when it is not a “Happy Easter,” it may be a “Hope-filled Easter.”  Our redemption, our salvation, our deliverance is coming in Christ, our Hope.  Alleluia for that!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.  In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith--more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire--may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.  Though you have not seen him, you love him.  Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. (1Peter 1:3-9 ESV)

Alleluia!  Christ is risen…and so has our hope, no matter what we face.

Peace, joy and love,

Pastor
